YouiDraw review

If you’re a new business owner without the perfect logo, trust me you’re not alone. Capturing your brand’s identity and ethos in a simple image isn’t as straightforward as it seems… You could go to a consultant and spend a fair whack of cash, or you could let your inner Picasso flourish with YouiDraw. This week’s tool review is for a design app catered for logo design as well as general painting and drawing. It has a host of templates to give you a kick-off point should you need it, and from there you can pretty much design what you want!

The website itself is fairly self-explanatory, a little cluttered in parts but still easy to navigate. To start, just sign up then get creative! There’s no pay-wall, but there is a charge should you require a more substantial subscription, but we'll get to that later. The design interface is busy, but it all begins to make sense once you figure out where everything is and what it all does. Using a common layering format like you may see on Photoshop, you can start to build your design easily upon the central canvas. My best recommendation for the app is to just try all the features out, it’s pretty endless what you can do for an online service.

Art was one of my subjects in Sixth form, but I’m no design wizz (in fact, I’m really, really not) but I do feel there is a sense of confidence in your own abilities and styles that this app cultivates. Its freedom and variety puts the control in your hands whilst always keeping you between the lines as it were, and I think that’s what sets it apart from other design/creative tools I’ve seen in the past. My only real reservation on this app is its cluttered nature, it could maybe be a bit cleaner/tidier, but I’m definitely nitpicking.

As I mentioned, there are subscriptions should you require this service for commercial use, but they’re not expensive. The free service lets you download your images in .jpg/.png formats and you can design to your heart’s content, provided it is for personal use only. If you intend on designing your logo using YouiDraw, it will set you back a fair price of £7.50 per month, or for a year’s package, £76.

Compared to what this could cost you by outsourcing the designs, I think it is money well spent and if nothing else, it is a nice outlet for your creativity to run riot, especially in a time such as this!
