Write Every Day review
Considering this week’s tool review is for a writing app, I thought it wise to write the review upon it. Write Every Day is the new platform to hone your creative craft. Cultivating a habit is often tougher than kicking one, it’s always hard to start, but you reap what you sow. Whether you fancy yourself a novelist, a bard, or even a rapper, Write Every Day is your place. 250 words every day, that’s the target - it isn’t much, but those 250 can be whatever you want them to be.
The interface itself is nice and clean and easy to navigate. It’s a landing page for you to ply your writing trade, with your word-count sat atop the text, you can keep track of your daily progress. There are 4 different themes to choose from, although theme basically means colour… I’ve chosen ‘Dark’ as it’s softer on my eyes. One nice feature is the community Write Every Day has accumulated, under the tab ‘Today’s Writers’ you can see who else is keeping up their practise and how many day’s streak they’ve acquired. Perhaps some healthy competition to spur yourself on?
The app is £4.63 ($5.99) a month, or 15p per day, which is less than a Freddo! But not before a free 30 day trial - ample time to determine whether or not you’ve caught the writing bug. I’ll confess this is my first day using the tool, but I’m already starting to feel like this is where I’ll continue my writing, it’s the sense of achievement invoked by ‘Write Every Day’. If I put my critic’s hat on, there are some aspects that have made this app less than perfect - although what is perfect anyway? Firstly, there seems to be no way of copy and pasting text from the landing page, or onto it. This led me to rewrite the review for it to be published - although you can export your month’s works. Additionally, there is a grammatical error for the tab ‘Today’s Writers’ which is missing an apostrophe… not particularly great for a writing platform.
Write Every Day is rare in the app world, as you only get out of it what you put in, it’s for those who want it. If like many, you’re short of free time, the tool has a reminder feature so you can keep up your habit at times that suit you. Hitting 250 words every day may not sound like a lot, but it’s not about the target, it’s about the practise, the joy, and the exploration of your creativity. Write Every Day, it’s an app, a command, a suggestion, and maybe your goal.
