Episode 29: The growth of communities

Episode 29 of The Clever Content Show features a cracking conversation between Iain and Tom about how people seem to be turning to closed communities instead of broadcasting to the world. They also cover Spotify’s decision to ban political advertising from their platform.

Do you prefer to send your messages out into the open world of social media or are you more likely to live in a private Facebook or WhatsApp group? It seems many people are preferring the latter these days and it may be part of a growing trend and the continued rise of communities.

Iain and Tom give their take on the situation and look at some of the reasons why it might be happening. They also explore what effect the growth in communities might have on brands and companies. Can marketeers and content folk still reach people if they are spread more widely in smaller groups?

In the second half of the show, our duo turn to Spotify and its recent decision to stop political ads on their platform. Affront to freedom of speech or simply too much moderation required for a company that doesn’t turn a profit? Perhaps a bit of both.

This is one of our best episodes so far, so pick up your headphones and turn it up to whatever you consider to be an appropriate volume.
