ANIMATION: Using real life to create impact online

Award winning animation telling the story of Joanne, a woman in need of Pause's help.

Before: Pause works with women who have experienced, or are at risk of, repeat removals of children from their care. They wanted to promote the real plight some women face and show how Pause can help them break the cycle and build a better life. Their aim was to create awareness and a tool that could help them increase donations.

After: Our animation puts the storyteller at the heart of the message. The creative process was undertaken with collaboration at the core; Joanne’s own writing is used and her drawings are included.

This animation won Gold awards at The Drum’s 2017 Roses Awards for: Animation, Charity Advert, Copywriting. It also received the coveted Chairman’s award from Trevor Beattie, who said:

“As an industry, we really only do two things: Move product and move people. The Pause film was a piece of work which moved me and the whole of our jury. Quite profoundly. It’s a story that draws you in and doesn’t let go. It introduces us to Joanne, who we genuinely care about. And just when we start to think that it’s a depiction of all hope lost, it turns things round. And delivers a positive, optimistic outcome.

She’s doing “brilliant” indeed. It moved me to want to help. And it moved me to write a cheque for £500 for Pause, and put my money where my mouth is. Huge congrats to Content OD and all involved. Magnificent, searing work.”
